EndermologieŽ
was originally developed in France during the 1980's. In the late
1970's, Louis Paul Guitay, a French engineer, suffered muscle and
skin damage after an accident. His scars were being treated by therapeutic
massage to help in restoring muscle function and to soften his scar
tissue. The three plus hours a day of rigorous manual rolling of the
skin to regain elasticity was very labor intensive, time consuming,
and the results varied with each therapist.
In order to speed up the work of his therapist and provide precisely
calibrated and consistent massage treatments, he developed a special
handheld computerized massage head that delivered intermittent regulated
suction and motorized rolling. EndermologieŽ was therefore developed
as a treatment for adherent scars. Over time, patients noticed an
interesting side effect: observable reduction of body dimensions and
improvement in the texture of the skin.
Since then, endermologieŽ has been used as a treatment for cellulite
reduction and skin tone. Today, endermologieŽ is the leader in connective
tissue treatment with more than 20,000 centers around the world in
over 80 countries. To this day, 7 million people have received endermologieŽ
treatments.
EndermologieŽ was introduced in the USA in 1996. In 1998 it received
the only FDA clearance to be marketed as a cellulite
treatment. Endermologie is FDA-cleared for:
